SECUROCK® Brand Gypsum Board provides moisture- and mold-resistant substrate solutions for demanding interior and exterior wall assemblies. Built with treated gypsum cores and durable glass-mat facers, the range supports applications exposed to moisture, exterior weather conditions and other environments where conventional gypsum sheathing may not provide the required performance.
USG ME offers SECUROCK® solutions for exterior cladding systems, high-moisture areas, shaft walls and fire-rated assemblies. Contractors, architects and consultants can choose from regular sheathing, Type X panels and specialized liner panels according to fire performance, wall construction and project requirements.
Glass-Mat Boards for Moisture-Resistant Wall Assemblies
Glass-mat boards replace traditional paper facings with fiberglass-based surfaces that provide additional resistance to moisture and mold. This construction makes them suitable for wall assemblies where the substrate may experience higher moisture exposure during construction or throughout the building's operation.
SECUROCK® Glass-Mat Sheathing uses a moisture-resistant gypsum core enclosed by fiberglass facers. The panels can form part of properly detailed exterior systems and are also suitable for selected interior applications requiring greater resistance to moisture, surface abrasion and impact.
Choose the Right SECUROCK® Board for Your Application
Different wall assemblies require different levels of moisture protection, fire performance and panel configuration. Selecting a board according to the complete wall system helps designers avoid overspecifying one area while leaving another without the required protection.
SECUROCK® solution | Key characteristics | Typical applications |
Glass-Mat Sheathing Regular | Moisture- and mold-resistant gypsum sheathing with fiberglass face and back | Exterior cladding systems, high-moisture areas and steel-framed assemblies |
Glass-Mat Sheathing Type X | Moisture- and mold-resistant sheathing with additional fire-resistance characteristics | Fire-rated walls, exterior cladding and high-moisture applications |
Glass-Mat Mold Tough® Firecode® Liner Panel | Fire-, moisture-, mold- and water-resistant liner panel | Shaft walls and area separation wall systems |
The correct panel should always be selected as part of the specified assembly rather than on the board name alone. Fire-rating requirements, framing, cladding, exposure and wall configuration should all be considered during specification.
Glass Mat Gypsum Board for Exterior Sheathing
A glass mat gypsum board can provide a suitable substrate beneath many properly detailed exterior finishing and cladding systems. SECUROCK® Glass-Mat Sheathing Regular is designed for applications including brick veneer, EIFS, DEFS, metal panel finishes, siding and conventional stucco when installed according to the requirements of the complete exterior system.
Its fiberglass facer and treated gypsum core help protect the substrate from moisture and mold while construction progresses. SECUROCK® Regular Sheathing meets ASTM C1177 requirements and may remain exposed to weather for up to 12 months after application when installed as specified.
Type X Sheathing for Fire-Rated Wall Requirements
Projects requiring greater fire performance can use SECUROCK® Brand Glass-Mat Sheathing Type X within appropriate fire-rated assemblies. The panel combines a treated gypsum core with fiberglass faces while providing additional fire resistance compared with regular SECUROCK® sheathing.
The Type X board is UL Classified for relevant fire-resistance, surface-burning and non-combustibility characteristics. It can be used in load-bearing and non-load-bearing steel-framed fire-rated walls as well as exterior and high-moisture applications where the specified wall design permits its use.
Moisture and Mold Protection for Demanding Areas
Moisture exposure can affect wall substrates during construction and after a building becomes operational. Choosing materials designed for these conditions helps protect the integrity of the wall assembly and reduces the risk of problems associated with moisture-sensitive surfaces.
SECUROCK® Glass-Mat Sheathing Regular and Type X achieve the highest score of 10 when tested for mold resistance in accordance with ASTM D3273. Their fiberglass facers also shed water, making the panels suitable for applications where improved moisture and mold resistance is an important specification requirement.
SECUROCK® Liner Panels for Shaft Wall Systems
Shaft walls and area separation walls require boards designed to work as part of tested wall assemblies. SECUROCK® Brand Glass-Mat Mold Tough® Firecode® Liner Panels combine a non-combustible gypsum core with moisture- and mold-resistant glass-mat surfaces.
The panels are UL Classified for fire resistance as Type SLX and feature double-beveled edges to support installation within compatible systems. They can substitute for specified USG Sheetrock® gypsum liner panels in applicable USG ME shaft wall and area separation wall systems.
What to Consider When Specifying SECUROCK® Boards
Board selection should begin with the performance requirements of the entire wall assembly rather than focusing on a single product property.
Consider:
Exposure conditions: Identify whether the substrate will face exterior weather or persistent moisture.
Fire requirements: Confirm whether the wall assembly requires a regular or Type X board.
Wall application: Determine whether the panel is being used for exterior sheathing, a shaft wall or another approved assembly.
Exterior finish: Check compatibility with the specified cladding or finishing system.
Framing design: Coordinate panel selection with load-bearing or non-load-bearing framing requirements.
Technical documentation: Review current datasheets, installation guides and tested assembly information before final specification.
System coordination: Ensure compatibility with related systems such as drywall framing accessories and gypsum board joint finishing products to achieve a complete and compliant wall assembly.
SECUROCK® Solutions for UAE Building Projects
UAE construction projects can include façades, service shafts and moisture-exposed spaces that place different demands on wall substrates. Rather than selecting one board for every condition, architects and contractors can match the appropriate SECUROCK® panel to the wall's location, exposure and required performance.
USG ME provides technical datasheets, safety information, system catalogues and installation documentation to help project teams evaluate SECUROCK® products as part of complete drywall and exterior wall assemblies, including coordination with drywall framing accessories and gypsum board joint finishing products where required.
For wet-area interior applications where cement-based substrates are specified, designers may also consider cement boards for wet areas as part of the broader USG ME system portfolio, depending on project requirements and approved assemblies.
