USG ME Flexible Fire and Acoustical Seal

USG ME Flexible Fire and Acoustical Seal

An acrylic based fire rated sealant for low movement fire rated joints and small pipes. USG ME fire rated sealant is an acrylic, latex-based sound caulk for use as a sealant in fire-rated partitions, smoke barriers and sound-rated assemblies.

One part, low modulus, neutral cure sealant is called Flexible Fire Rated Sealant. It can be used to seal gaps in the drywall systems, and construction joints after the installation. Additionally, it is excellent for weathersealing expansion joints in fire-rated walls, building facades, and curtain walling.

It has great adherence to many typical building materials and is fire rated. It exhibits exceptional resistance to UV, ozone, and extreme temperatures.

Q & A
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
ASK A QUESTION

Q1: How are sealants designed to be utilized, and in what specific applications are they recommended?

A: USG ME sealants, formulated with an acrylic base, are specifically designed for use in fire-rated partitions, smoke barriers, and sound-rated assemblies as acoustical barriers. They are intended to reduce sound transmission through openings or cracks in walls, ceilings, and floors, providing a versatile solution for various construction applications.

Q2: What are the key qualities that make sealants highly effective in reducing sound transmission and providing thermal protection?

A: USG ME sealants are exceptionally strong and produce a continuous, flexible bead that does not collapse. They flow into even the most complex joints, forming a dense, continuous barrier that effectively blocks out air and other gases. Additionally, these sealants are impervious to water infiltration and offer high thermal shock protection, ensuring optimal performance in sound transmission reduction and thermal insulation.

Q3: In what scenarios are sealants particularly suitable, given their vibration and movement resistance properties?

A: USG ME sealants are perfect for joints in assemblies that are fire-rated but have little to no movement. Their good vibration and movement resistance make them ideal for applications where the joint flexibility is limited, yet high fire ratings and acoustical performances are required. These sealants provide a reliable solution for maintaining the integrity of fire-rated partitions and sound-rated assemblies.

Q4: How do USG ME sealants contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of fire-rated partitions, smoke barriers, and sound-rated assemblies in construction projects?

A: USG ME sealants play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of fire-rated partitions, smoke barriers, and sound-rated assemblies. By providing a dense, continuous barrier that blocks out air and gases, these sealants ensure the integrity of the structures. Their resistance to water infiltration and high thermal shock protection further enhance their effectiveness, making them essential components in construction projects where sound transmission reduction and fire-rated integrity are critical requirements.
